Letters and e-mails sent directly to your legislators are extremely impactful. At this session, we will work with you to craft the perfect letter, email or post card to Wyoming Elected Officials.
We will send letters to the Warden and head of the Department of Corrections to express our support of the women in the Lusk Women's Prison. This event is co-sponsored by the Women's March Committee.
Why write letters?
Letter writing is an effective tactic. We know this because with the exception of those in leadership roles, most legislators have no staff. This means they’re the ones who are answering when constituents call or write emails. The amount of feedback a legislator gets on a certain issue can help determine its importance in their eyes. For example, if a legislator is getting a ton of e-mails and letters saying “vote NO on this bill,” it’s bound to make a big impression.
As with any other meeting or communication with your legislator, politeness the key to success. Be kind, be honest, and share your personal story. Facts are important, but personal and relatable stories can play a powerful role in changing hearts, minds, and votes.
