The Wyoming Campaign to End the Death Penalty has been working with community leaders of the last several months to finally end this racist and error-prone from of punishment.

Today, we hear from Jordan Bishop, with the Wyoming Interfaith Network, to learn why they joined this campaign and support our mission to repeal the death penalty in Wyoming.

Send your note to Wyoming lawmakers now to ask they support Senate File 150!

Why do you support a death penalty repeal?

As a Christian, the death penalty does not fit in with my understanding of God’s justice, God’s love for all humanity, and Christ’s work of the reconciliation of all things. The death penalty disproportionally impacts communities of color, the poor, and those who suffer from mental illness.

What would you tell someone who is on the fence about supporting a repeal?

The death penalty is a racist, ineffective, and inaccurate tool in the criminal justice toolbox. It does not make our communities safer and is more expensive than life without parole.

What toll, do you think, the death penalty has on communities?

The death penalty has killed hundreds of innocent people. That is hundreds of families that had their sibling, mother, father, son, or daughter, ripped from them by our government. That is hundreds of towns and cities that lost a member of their communities. There is an untold impact that the inaccurate and ineffective death penalty leaves in its wake.

The death penalty can socially, emotionally, and economically rip communities apart.

What would you say to someone who thinks the death penalty delivers justice?

If your definition of justice requires someone else’s blood, it might be time to reconsider what you think justice is.
