Update: The Senate Transportation Committee voted to advance Senate File 33.
Background: Senate File 33 would require that driver’s licenses and identification cards issued to people who are not United States citizens but have lawful status in the country have the words “Not a United States Citizen” printed on them.
Our position: The ACLU of Wyoming opposes Senate File 33. Distinguishable driver’s licenses establish a lower-tier ID for these immigrants, rendering them vulnerable to discrimination and harassment by businesses, landlords, security guards, police officers, and other government agents.
