Letters and e-mails sent directly to your legislators are extremely impactful. At this session, we will work with you to craft the perfect letter, email or post card to your representative regarding the women's prison in Lusk.
We will send letters to the Warden and the head of the Department of Corrections. This event is in partnership with the Immigration and Justice Coalition of Laramie County which is comprised of women from the area who lead the group.
Why write letters?
Letter writing is an effective tactic. We know this because with the exception of those in leadership roles, most legislators have no staff. This means they’re the ones who are answering when constituents call or write emails. The amount of feedback a legislator gets on a certain issue can help determine its importance in their eyes. For example, if a legislator is getting a ton of e-mails and letters saying “vote NO on this bill,” it’s bound to make a big impression.
As with any other meeting or communication with your legislator, politeness the key to success. Be kind, be honest, and share your personal story. Facts are important, but personal and relatable stories can play a powerful role in changing hearts, minds, and votes.
