What’s on your mind politically these days?
If you’re like many Americans, the answer is probably the latest Trump tweet, the newest details in the Mueller investigation or what Sarah Sanders said in her most recent press briefing.
That’s not surprising, considering it’s what dominates much of the national political news cycle these days.
But heightened political awareness is spiking a greater interest in state and local politics, too. More people than ever are interested and eager to get involved, but aren’t sure where to start. That’s why the ACLU of Wyoming is co-hosting two upcoming letter-writing sessions in Cheyenne this month.
“Letters and emails sent directly to our public officials can be a very useful advocacy tactic and can be extremely effective in making change in our state,” said Antonio Serrano, organizer for the ACLU of Wyoming. “We want to make sure Wyoming voices are heard.”
These days, prison issues are top of mind for many Wyomingites.
On March 23, people will be writing to Wyoming officials to remind them of their opposition to the proposed immigration prison near Evanston. On March 31, letter-writers will be turning their attention to the women’s prison in Lusk and writing about their concerns with the conditions there.
